SIWES Program

Bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world industrial practice through the Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme.

Practical Development

What is SIWES?

The Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) is a skills training program designed to expose and prepare students in Nigerian universities for the industrial work situation they are likely to meet after graduation.

It is a mandatory graduation requirement for various technological, science, and professional programs. At the MTU ODeL Center, we ensure distance learners receive identical opportunities to engage in high-impact industrial placements, supported by a digital logbook tracking system.

Duration

A continuous period of 24 weeks (6 months) in an approved industry or establishment.

Unit Load

Earns 6 credit units, graded upon successful submission of logbook, reports, and a physical defense.

Target Programmes

The following ODeL courses require a mandatory SIWES placement before graduation:

CS

B.Sc. Computer Science

Mandatory 6-month placement in Year 3/4 (Software Engineering, Network Admin, IT Support, Database Management).
