Our vision

The vision of the Open and Distance Learning Centre, Mountain Top University is to be a world class dynamic centre and leading provider of degree programmes for the production of top-rate, morally sound graduates of distinction via quality technology driven Open and Distance Learning who will be globally competitive for outstanding impact on the Nigerian societal and global development. Also, to foster the third education revolution through project-based learning, thereby bridging the gap between theory and practice.

Our mission

To provide access to quality and flexible higher education through distance learning platform for the production and development of morally upright and academically sound graduates who are creative, innovative, research oriented and with specialised skills and value systems, who will be independent, invariably self-employable and technologically knowledgeable and competent in the areas of specialization irrespective of location, gender, age and race.

Philosophy of the Centre

The philosophy of the Centre is premised on Mountain Top University philosophy which is in line with Nigerian Philosophy of Education which posits that:

Education is an instrument for national development
Education fosters the worth and development of the individual
Every Nigerian should have equal access to education and lifelong/flexible learning opportunities both inside and outside of the formal school system irrespective of age, gender and location (National Policy on Education, 2004).

Therefore, the University’s Open and Distance Learning program’s philosophy is based on the strong belief that access to quality and flexible higher education can be extended to all deserving persons, irrespective of their age, gender and place of abode through blended platforms.

Objectives of the Centre

The objectives of the Open and Distance Learning Centre, Mountain Top University include:

To provide access to University education to individuals who have either missed the opportunity of higher education at the early stages of their lives or may want to pursue university education through the distance learning option.
To offer programmes in various areas of need in line with best global practices and standards.
To boost employment opportunities and raise level of productivity through the provision of quality higher education.
To provide prospective learners faced with the challenges of keeping their jobs and homes the opportunities to advance academically and professionally.
To promote lifelong learning, continuing education and professional development through Open and Distance Learning system by applying mixed mode delivery mechanism
To collaborate with international bodies to ensure seamless access to quality higher education of global standards to all Nigerians and other Nationals.
To launch the Mountain Top University into the global education market by positioning it as an avenue of knowledge and intellectual resource centre.
To provide prospective distance learners affordable fees and the flexibility that will enable such students combine the demand of the working place with those of academic studies.
To serve as the nerve centre for learning in Africa by creating an avenue for national and international peace, cooperation, understanding and harmony through quality educational services using distance learning strategy.
To provide opportunities for capacity development to individuals who want to combine study with other activities.
To contribute to the development of middle and high-level manpower required in both Public and Private sectors.
